Alternatives to DTPDocuments

Postby mrickan » Wed Jan 20, 2010 11:32 pm

So should I take it from the lack of responses to my query that no one has come across any other solutions for document editing that are in any way comparable to DTPDocuments?

I'm not suggesting that DTPDocuments isn't terrific of course, just assuming that people have evaluated other solutions or perhaps come up with their own.

There is another new library based on AggPas - CrossGL:

It is designed a bit in a different way, but seems to be relatively advanced.
I tried a demo editor and personally I did not like its non standard user interface of the editor. Otherwise it seems to have a lot of nice features.

Someone else pointed this out as well. However, on the site the description indicates:

This product is not for sale.

I'm not really clear why an SDK would be showcased if it's only purpose is to demonstrate how applications are developed.

Has anyone found anything else... Delphi or otherwise?

My feeling about the possible reason, that CrossGL is not for sale right now , is that Milan intensively updating AggPas towards the Delphi object model.
I am sure, that Milan will be glad to sell a copy of the SDK in order to get a feedback from customers.

There is another nice library, that is in development too:

I am not sure, whether it will come out as a 2D editor, but it look very promising.

In my opinion there are only few people in Delphi community that want and can develop a good graphic library. I hope that they will keep working in this area.

Perhaps it would be worth contacting both developers to see what their plans are in terms of licensing and availability.

I agree that there are a limited number of people in the Delphi community capable of handling such a project, although an ActiveX component should work equally as well. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything in that area either. My guess is that people have underestimated the demand.

Perhaps if there is enough interest, we should consider pooling resources and creating a project opportunity.

Before I forget, this is another application that uses AGG as its rendering engine:

I've inquired about the possibility of a library but the author mentioned he hadn't considered it yet.
